What is all on 6 dental implants and all on 4 dental implants: which one is best for you?

There is no doubt that modern implantology is changing the lives of patients. Among the main implantology techniques to rehabilitate the complete denture in one day, we have what is all on 6 dental implants and all on 4 dental implants. Learn more about both of these procedures:

The all-on-4 dental implant technique

It consists of placing four implants for the entire arch, adapting to cases in which there is mild to moderate bone atrophy.

The prosthesis is installed instantly, so there is no waiting time between carrying out the implant and placing the teeth.

With the all-on-4 technique, the dentist place four dental implants: two in the front of the maxilla and two in the back (one on each side).

The two that go in the back will be placed inclined. This is done to achieve better fixation without performing bone grafts such as maxillary elevation (when it is the upper one) or a bone regeneration technique.

In the case of tilted jaw implants, they are recommended due to the possible lack of height, density, or thickness of the bone.

Sometimes it will be necessary to add a few more in either two arches or both. The reason will always depend on the quantity and quality of the patient’s bone.

The pillars are placed on these four dental implants, and the fixed or semi-fixed denture or dental prosthesis goes over these.

The all-on-6 dental implant technique

What is all on 6 dental implants? These are almost the same as the all-on-4. The only differences are:

Instead of 4 implants, the dentist places 6: two in the front and four in the back (two on each side).

When are all-on-4 dental implants recommended?

All on 4 dental implants are perfect for those patients who lack bone in their jaws. In some cases, patients do not want to perform bone regeneration procedures, or they did it and did not obtain the expected results.

Typically, these are patients who are elderly and have worn dentures for several years. It is also recommended for patients who have been without, or almost without, teeth for years.

When are all-on-6 dental implants recommended?

All on 6 dental implants are perfect for those cases in which it is necessary to have more grip, either because of the amount of bone or the patient’s oral cavity size.

In these cases, two more implants are added.
